Embracing the realities of life, or in other words embracing the things we cannot change is a very powerful way to truly love and understand the impermanence of life. Remember the fact that we cannot change the past, only learn from it. We can only plan for the future, and cannot know it. All we can know is the now, the present. Embrace now.
Hopefully you will read the Five Remembrances below and understand the simple truth of the words. Each morning I will now be using Thich Nhat Hanhs version of Buddha's Five Remembrances to remind myself of the things I can not change. Helping me to enjoy the here and now. Helping me to live in the moment and to stop worrying about the future and regretting the past.
I hope you will join me in this simple practice and please, let me know your experiences living life while being present in the moment.
The Five Remembrances by Thich Nhat Hanh
1) I am of the nature to grow old. There is no way to escape growing old.
2) I am of the nature to have ill health. There is no way to escape ill health.
3) I am of the nature to die. There is no way to escape death.
4) All that is dear to me and everyone I love are of the nature to change. There is no way to escape being separated from them.
5) My actions are my only true belongings. I cannot escape the consequences of my actions. My actions are the ground upon which I stand.
